04/03/2007
There have been many community and individual highlights throughout Term 1: evident in eg academic gains, sporting endeavours, cultural pursuits, as well as growth in personal development and interrelationships.
Here are some of the highlights of Term 1
We welcomed returning and new students, families and staff
It didn't take long for the new staff to settle to their roles!
Greek: Mary Bekas has staff and students singing Greek greeting songs
Special Class: Emily Wilson has integrated her students with a range of buddy classes
Year 1,2: Justine Talbot has familiarised her students with sharing their work at Assembly
Student teachers also joined the Year 6/7 classes and we have enjoyed their insight and energy
Visit by Port Power players
The whole school assembled to meet the players and listen to their heroes give further emphasis to the importance of a healthy lifestyle and persistence, even in the face of adversity. Thank you Port Power for taking time out of your busy schedule to inspire and care for our young people
Dramatic presentation on Safety by Giddy Goanna
Staff and students alike wait with eager anticipation for the safety kit to arrive in our school. Giddy Goanna briefly introduced a variety of strategies children can adopt as they take responsibility of keeping themselves safe around traffic, bikes, fire and water; thereby being adversaries of "Captain Danger."
Caring for Community included
SRC lead activities eg Clean Up Australia, Banned Day, Anzac Day celebration and fundraising for the charity "Save the Children."
Harmony day was celebrated with a focus on community connectedness and team work
A visit from Cancer Council Camp Quality puppets with a motto worth remembering "It's not cool to be cruel." Children responded well to the challenge to look beyond exterior characteristics of others and to live out qualities of sensitivity and friendship
Family Fun Night
What a wonderful night of friendship, fun and talent sharing; and we even raised $3500 for the school.Classes presented their items with enthusiasm, novice riders giggled with anticipation of sitting astride a horse for the first time, our music students performed with confidence and advanced skills, and our stall holders were able to provide a satisfying snack to the hungry
Sporting Achievements
Engaging in physical activity is strongly promoted at Berri PS, and we are always pleased to share accomplishments of our students in various sporting endeavours.
Congratulations Ebony Hoffmann, Codie Tilbrook, Keiarna Suhrcke and Emily Miller for your participation at SAPSASA swim trials. Emily has since swam in the Riverland SAPSSA team competing in Adelaide, (achieving 1st in backstroke) the SA Junior Sprints, (achieving 1st in breaststroke) and the Country Superchallenge (achieving 1st in backstroke)
