Celebrations in community

Harmony Week was recently a highlight in our school.

Orange posters, stickers and ribbons were clearly visible throughout the school during Harmony Week. The message of celebrating cultural diversity was clearly shared through Assembly lead by Mrs Paula Bucon and her skilled Greek dancers and speakers.

Students could not help but gain some "head" knowledge of the need to accept, respect and value difference. However it is vital that our knowledge be translated into meaningful behaviour. Difference can be confronting, especially where it challenges our spiritual beliefs or makes us feel excluded through language.

When we are truly able to accept and value ourself, along with others in community the whole of community gains. The message of Harmony Day is YOU + ME = US

Each member that participates and celebrates connectedness in community is more likely to achieve a happy and mentally healthy life. The school value of Friendship is more meaningful when lived out is community.
